Fantails are a really tricky bird to draw, and John struggled plenty of times early on when he first started to draw New Zealand's native birdlife. But then one day something clicked and since then they've become one of his favourite birds to draw.
Here we have a beautiful pair of fantails sharing a moment amongst some manuka flowers. Pairs of fantails have become an increasingly popular subject matter for John. They can offer a theme of romance and tenderness that really resonates with art lovers.
The artwork has been hand drawn by John using coloured pencils upon plywood. The artwork has been sealed with a gloss varnish.
